MENTAL HEALTH - MY TAKE AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Mental Health Awareness is one of the things that is sadly lacking and is a thing greatly needed in our today’s society. When one fails to manage one’s emotions positively, he or she will not be able to cope with challenges or contribute positively to society. The person may go on to become a problem to people around him and to the entire society. I Commend Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, their Stakeholders and Partners for this initiative.

With the emergence of Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation in the Country, the awareness on mental health issues is increasing especially among individuals, communities hence deliberate adjustment in the way and manner in which we manage our emotions and mental health issues are attended to thereby increasing sensitivity to positive coping methods. This further reducing vulnerability to negative emotions which cause journey to negative options such as crime, substance and drug addictions, Violent behaviours, suicide and incidences of sudden death occasioned by constant worries, panic, fear and anxiety and the like.

I once again commend Cope and live Mental Health Awareness Foundation for the great work they're doing in changing the mindset of Nigerians through their well-structured community-based programs especially on the need to constantly treasure their Mental Health.

I want to sincerely suggest that the program be given a wider and holistic coverage to get into institutions of Government like the Law Enforcement Agencies and other Agencies that interact with the people as well as other Federal and State parastatals and each state House of Assembly should make haste to prioritise mental health with legislation aimed at addressing those push and pull factors motivating negative emotions and mental health issues. Mental health is key because it revolves around mindset and the mindset controls the body and attitude.
