POSITIVE COPING SKILLS

The inability of our young persons, children and youths including adults to  cope with tough and difficult situations is due to the absence of resilience and critical thinking.

Social injustice, impunity, inequality, corruption and the likes can make anybody consider navigating the paths of negative options and alternatives such as: involvement in crime, vices, disorders, drug addictions, violence and all forms of misconduct as the only way out of such challenges.

The absence of positive coping skills, resilience as well as critical thinking with sincere diversionary tools creates the problems of: struggles for survivals at all cost, panic, anxiety, negative coping methods and the eventual recruitment into membership of violent and other criminal groups as a way out.

At this stage, the push and pull factors would have motivated their intentional involvement into the world of misconduct due to lack of opportunities. This is sadly so because as they say, “when the preferred is not available, the available becomes the preferred”.
