OUR MEMORIES & MENTAL HEALTH

Memories can impact our mental health positively or negatively. It keeps a record of what has made you upset or happy, what has caused you pain or what brought relief. Choose to preserve and recall the positive ones. It can help you recover from some mental illness like depression and anxiety disorder. It can help you to stay hopeful.

Browse through happy pictures taken with family, friends and loved ones, pleasant holiday or event pictures. Choose to remember the good sides of someone rather than the bad. Play music that recalls pleasant memories. Send an email or SMS to someone that makes your life better and tell them so. Journal your happy moments in your phone, journal or diary.

On the other hand, persistent recall of unpleasant or traumatic memories can lead to some mental illness like PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and Addictions.

It is worthy to note that mental illness can also impact memory. Depression can cause forgetfulness or confusion which can make one lose concentration. Anxiety and stress can also lead to poor memory.
