AIDING MENTAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ARTS

Arts is the expression of human creative skills and imagination, typically in a visual form, such as painting, sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional powers. It can also be expressed in other creative forms such as in music and poetry etc.

Arts can help children and adults to engage in nature and become more observant with the ability to look at whatever they do critically and objectively while sometimes drawing inspiration and judgment from the abstract. This can help improve their thinking processes.

By exploring their creativity and expressing themselves through art children and adults can gain a greater sense of who they are and what they are capable of.

Arts therapy is a form of treatment that uses creative means to treat mental illness and improve mental health through theatre, dance, movement, music therapy, poetry, drawing, painting and craft.

Arts therefore occupies a veritable position as a problem solving instrument in mental development of children, young persons and adults.
